1968 Plymouth Road Runner
Wallpaper Description:
Muscle cars: 20 that made historyThe 1968 Plymouth Road Runner represented the muscle-car ideal: lots of power in a basic midsize package. The Road Runner started life as a bare-bones Belvedere with a 383-cubic-inch 335-horsepower V8 engine, but buyers could spend an additional $714 to get the 426-cubic-inch 425-horsepower Hemi V8. With that engine, the car could cover the quarter-mile in about 13.5 seconds at 105 mph. The car also featured a heavy-duty suspension, a "beep-beep" horn, dual air scoops, bigger brakes and wider tires. Dodge and Plymouth paid Warner Bros. $50,000 to use the name and image of the Road Runner cartoon character and continued the theme in the coming years, adding playful graphics to the cars and the ad campaigns.
