1970 Plymouth Superbird
Wallpaper Description:
Muscle cars: 20 that made historyIn 1969, Dodge added the Charger Daytona aero special for NASCAR competition, and in 1970 it was Plymouth's turn. The Superbird was a Road Runner with a flush rear window, a pointed steel nose mated to Dodge Coronet front fenders, and a 25-inch-high rear spoiler meant to aid downforce on NASCAR's superspeedways. The NASCAR racers received the 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8 engine, and so did 135 street cars. It cranked out 425 horsepower and vaulted the Superbird to a 13.5-second quarter-mile time for Car and Driver. These gaudy cars were a tough sell in their day, but today they are coveted collectibles.
