Useful Flowers

Post all photos or prints of all flowers that are useful. Additional information in Group Details Section. Many cultures use flowers in cooking, or in salads, teas, and garnish for desserts. Creative uses: Roll spicy ones into handmade pasta dough, floral ones into homemade ice cream, or make floral simple syrup. Tips for eating flowers safely: Eat flowers you know to be consumable — if you are uncertain, consult a reference book on edible flowers and plants. Eat flowers you have grown yourself, or know are safe for consumption. Flowers from the florist or nursery: Often treated with pesticides or other chemicals.
Don't eat roadside flowers or those picked in public parks. Both may have pesticide or herbicide, or may be polluted by car exhaust.
Eat only petals. Remove pistils and stamens.
Allergies? Introduce edible flowers gradually. They may exacerbate allergies. Keep flowers fresh. Place them on moist paper towels and refrigerate in airtight container. Some will last up to 10 days. Ice water can revitalize limp flowers. Do research online and keep flowers safe and enjoyable.

Wallpaper Description:

I took this dande1ion photo back in May. The dandelion is by a small woodpile in my backyard.

I like this photo a lot for two reasons. One is that the dandelion is almost ready to turn into a white "fuzzy". You can tell by the way the flower is puckered upwards.

The other reason I like it is because of the lush green grass around it. Right now during this last week of June, the grass looks like a stubby mowed field of yellow straw, because we need rain so badly. It's hard for me to believe what a difference 5 weeks can make!

Hopefully we'll get some rain soon. At the moment it seems like every in the midwest is either getting too much, or not enough of it! :D

PS. Dandelions can be used as wine or tea. It's leaves can be eaten cooked or raw leaves can be put into salads. :)

PPS. Here are two photo walls that I took in my backyard at about the same time:
