Wallpaper Description:
I designed this wallpaper to celebrate a wonderful time in American Deaf History. Not only was it a great time for Deaf people, it was also a great day for Civil Rights.Today is the 25th Anniversary of the day that Gallaudet University elected their first Deaf President, Dr. I. King Jordan.
This was not easily achieved. The students at Gallaudet started a protest when the Gallaudet Board of trustees selected a hearing woman who barely knew ASL (American Sign Language) over 2 Deaf Candidates who were highly qualified for the position.
On March 7th, the students began what would end up being a 7 day protest. The protest started drawing attention from the News Media. Before the week was over, the whole world knew about the students fight to have a Deaf President for their school.
If you want to learn more about this Historical event, google Deaf President Now. I also would like to recommend a wonderful book written about it by someone who was there and active in the protest at the time. The book is "The Triumph of the Spirit" by Angel M. Ramos, Ph.d. The protest was a positive one that was inspiring for hearing and Deaf people alike. This book captures the spirit of it beautifully.
If you are Deaf, or study American Sign Language, please spread the word about this wallpaper. I made it in the Gallaudet School Colors, and it would great if they found out that this wallpaper is available to them on Desktop Nexus.
I am a hearing student of American Sign Language. I am not that good at it, but I have some wonderful Deaf friends who are very encouraging and patient with me. My husband is also hearing and studies ASL. He is far more skilled than I am and he interprets services at our church every week.

PS. Many of my tag words have to do with the protest. I will be adding more tag words to the list in the next few days.
PPS. I made this wallpaper for a 1680 x 1050 screen resolution, but it also looks great on my 1920 x 1080 screen.
